Hardboiled
HARDBOILED We recently watched Anatomy of a Murder The hardboiled egg used to be a staple in lunchboxes (along with wax paper which you never see any more either). I loved watching Jimmy Stewart and his old drunk pal sharing salt and pepper, peeling away the shells on their respective eggs, and sloppily eating them. It made me nostalgic for an era I never even experienced. For men like my grandpa. The hardboiled egg symbolizes everything that is fucked up about our wasteful culture because it's something that COULD endure the test of time: a person on the go can take it anywhere as long as it's reasonably cushioned, it will "keep" for the entire day even if you're working a twelve hour shift, it comes in its own packaging, and any dipshit can boil an egg. But no one eats boiled eggs anymore. They just doesn't require enough plastic, cardboard, or styrofoam!! And they're not cool . . . the boiled egg is so not cool. It stinks, the way good food should. You want to know something sexy? My boyfriend made deviled eggs for us tonight. I know, it's a fancier version of the plain boiled egg, but old-fashioned and out-of-style nonetheless. I wanted to smear his creamy salty yolks all over my body, but doing so would have been wasteful so I chose to gobble them up instead. I HAVE A BOYFRIEND WHO MAKES DEVILED EGGS!! Having said that, I can't believe I haven't tried to marry him yet. It's 2006 and I have a man under sixty who makes deviled eggs!! Dude, I don't even know any men OVER sixty who make deviled eggs. They probably think it's a woman's job to whip up that potluck food. You can start your crying now, ladies. Deviled. EGGS! MY boyfriend!

YUMMY!!!!!!!
I like to add onion to mine to make them even stinkier!
The other thing that makes hard boiled eggs out of style is that they cost less than a dime each.

I love deviled eggs.. I make them a few times a year in the summer for picnics.
I even make egg salad for sandwhiches.. a cheap easy meal that for sure will give the whole family gas..hehe
I love deviled eggs. Unfortunately only my aunt makes them on special occasions. I make hard boiled eggs, and occasionally I eat them too. I grew up in the country though so maybe we were in a time warp. After we spent some time in the middle east, we had this yummy thing called foule medammes which is a kind of bean, plus olive oil, plus onions & garlic plus lemon juice all mashed up. Yummy goodness, and perfect with a boiled egg and flat bread for breakfast.
How sad is this? I have no clue how to make deviled eggs & the only time I get to eat them is at funerals. You'd better hurry up & marry that boy! =)
I do make boiled eggs once in a while, but I don't eat them one at a time. I boil a bunch & mash 'em all up in a bowl with butter. Yummmm! You'd think with the low carb craze more people would be eating eggs again. The yolk does have some fat & (gasp!) cholesterol, but lots of healthy stuff too.
Yeah, Sab -- I think you hit the nail on the head with the cheap thing. It's so uncool to eat something cheap. If something's value can be measured in pennies, it must be worthless.
Oh well, the cool part is that my friends are obviously so uncool (as far as boiled eggs go) and therefore totally COOL in my geekbook of "cool friends"!!
Could it be that your distaste, mentionedin a later entry, for "eating clean" has led you to believe that no one else does it? Maybe becaue you don't see it a lot? I asure you, people are still eating boiled eggs. They ARE a perfect food.
Ever since I was a kid I've loved the sulfur smell of boiled eggs. :)
Another great thing about AOAM is Jimmy Stewart sharing a piano with Duke Ellington. Directed by Mr. Freeze, by the way.
