Bloody $pread
BLOODY $PREAD You may or may not know it, but I have a website featuring photos and videos of me menstruating. Some of them are "tasteful", and some of them are SO not. Audacia, one of the editors at $pread magazine, encouraged me to write something about the politics of menstruation porn and I happily obliged. ![]() Well, actually I so enthusiastically obliged I went way over the feature-length word count limit and ran out of energy to edit it down and fix the ending in which I thrust my bloody fist into a whole other bag of worms so I was actually surprised that they ran it. I was *so* excited when the issue came in the mail and I was in it alongside a bunch of great pieces covering all kinds of different sex worker issues. Though I wish I'd have done a better job, you know . . . it wasn't that bad and I think I conveyed some important points with a decent amount of clarity and a rare perspective. To nail the points home even deeper, my billing account for BloodyTrixie.com was suspended in between the time I wrote the piece and the time it was published. In our media, the only time blood is appropriate and welcome as entertainment is when it appears due to violence. So -- I'm not going to post the text of the article here; you have to actually buy the magazine (which, by the way, has been nominated for the Utne Independent Press Award for "Best New Title of 2005"). I'm sorry if it feels like I'm holding out on you -- it's not that I don't want you to read the piece, it's just that indie publications need subscribers in order to survive and I think we NEED a magazine by and for sex workers. A little support to indies makes a whole lot of difference. Did I mention how excited I was to hold the magazine in my hands and to be IN it? Having your photograph in a magazine is one thing, but having your barely-edited uncensored WORDS in a magazine is a whole OTHER thing. It makes me feel potent and solid. Speaking of photos in magazines, do you remember I mentioned being interviewed by Bizarre magazine for a piece on menstrual sex? Here are some thumbnails of that (fans of BloodyTrixie should recognize most of the photos along with an uncredited image of one of my favorite webwhores, Sexy Miss Lizz). ![]() While we're on the subject, I have GOT to get an update posted to BloodyTrixie tonight if possible; even though I can't get paid for it anymore, there are people who subscribed to it BEFORE I lost my ability to process payments and they deserve to have some updates. Enough blogging, for now at least . . . |

Wow, congratulations! The layout looks really good. My buddy Bianca does an advice column for them now, and she's enjoyed the association with them.
Maybe you should talk them into bringing you to London for next year's Erotica convention to their booth!
